  • Asylum may provide protection if you are facing persecution based on the following protected categories:
  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender
  • Religious beliefs
  • Social group
  • Political views
  • Ethnicity
  • Race and/or nationality

How Can I Seek Asylum?

In order to seek asylum, you must do so at any port of entry of the U.S. or within one year of being present in the U.S. You will need to provide evidence of the persecution or founded fear of persecution to begin the application process, this may come in the form of a detailed declaration, and if available other supporting documentation. Once you have filed the initial application, you will have an interview at an asylum office in the district closest to your place or residence where you will be asked a variety of questions. You will then have the opportunity to declare under oath with the use of an interpreter of your choice, and further discuss the persecution you have faced or are likely to face and show evidence by testimony or other documentary evidence that you could face further persecution if you return to your home country.

Typically after the interview has been conducted, you will undergo a waiting period before you have an answer. You will then either find that the agency has recommended asylum or you would be referred to an Immigration Judge to review your case. Our firm is here to help you make your case and document your fears in the most comprehensive way possible. We will represent you during your asylum interview before the agency and the Immigration Judge if necessary.
